Is Blogging Narcissistic?

I was sitting in the Dr. office waiting for her to come and I saw an article entitled Confessions of a Mommy Blogger. It looked interesting, so I walked my half dressed body across the room and grabbed it and ran back to the table. I only had enough time to read this:

Blogging is narcissistic — and time-consuming. It gives strangers (not to mention the in-laws) ammunition for criticizing our parenting choices. And one day it could really mortify our kids. Here's why we do it anyway.

The doctor walked in and I couldn't even start the article. So I spent all morning this morning looking for it. If you have time let me know what you think. I'm so narcissistic, I have to have everyone's approval:)

I am so grateful to be able to record my life and know that I am not the only one going through all this alone.

My dad, who doesn't read my blog, calls it Bragspot.com. He says that blogs are like the Christmas brags ... every day of the week. I started my blog FOR my in-laws so that they could watch Ryan grow up. Here and there I get off on little rants and raves, but for the most part, it's just a Ryanspot.com, so I don't even care. Heaven forbid we were to move and my dad didn't get to see Ryan whenever he wanted ... I bet he'd start reading my Bragspot then! lol.

I stopped caring what people think a long time ago - just to prove that I will admit what kind of person I am right here - I would have stuffed that magazine in my purse after and finished the article at home. - I might have brought it back on my next appt. LOL
I think my blog breaks down like this:
for me
for grandmas
for friends
for the kids in the future - it may embarass them, but I would love to look at my mom's blog from the seventies and eighties!

Such a good article.. I like this part;

"the most significant events in our lives are the ones I haven't been able to write about...waffling about string cheese while my heart breaks"

It just feels good to talk about the trivial things or stuff that makes us happy as mom's, to have that connection with others even if it is about the so called 'string cheese' events!!

Dito to what Andrea said...I love ya!

I don't think it's so much narcissistic as just plain ego-centric. But I'm all for a little ego-centrism baby!

I have to say that I love reading people's blogs! It's made me realize that we're all more similar than I imagined. I also like them because one can get to know people for what they think, not how they come across, which must be more like how Heavenly Father sees us. :) Oh, and you're right, you're not going through this stuff alone. ~Melissa
