i had my first experience with TAKS tests today. See the lady in the pic sitting-- yes that would be what i did the first half of the day-- doing the same thing tomorrow. you're all jealous of me i know :D what a crazy thing this whole TAKS stuff is.
makes me wonder about the generation of children we are creating-- what are the ramifications of all this testing, throughout their school career??? not saying good or bad-- i know its going to have an effect, just wondering what it will be.
i can tell you one thing. i know the kids at my school, have better test taking skills than i do. this much i know.

I've wondered that myself...
Why do you have to sit in the hall? I don't get how that is useful?
When I was a kid we took an Iowa Basic Skills test but our passing/failing a grade didn't depend on that test ... I think that's a ridiculous way to test to see if a kid goes to the next grade or not. I was an awful test taker but if you asked me a question I could tell you the answer verbally. Math questions were the only things I did well when it came to test taking.
Yeah I was very nervous for my little man yesterday. He is naturally more gifted in Math but he does not test well for math. Its hard to be judged at any age.
And I assume someone sits in the hall to keep distractors from roaming through the halls. I know on TAKS days parents/volunteers are not allowed at the schools. You can't even go eat lunch with them - lest you disturb a test taker.
I have to sit in the hall, so if a teacher administiring the test needs to go potty, I can step into their classroom. A certified teacher must be in the classroom with the tests at all times.
Some hall monitors actually monitor the bathrooms, because only one child is allowed in the bathroom at a time, because they are not allowed to discuss the test at all while testing.
don't even get me started on TAKS!
Wow that is super strict.`
